The MES C.A.R.E.S. Board of Directors is pleased to announce the first distribution of funds raised will benefit two worthy causes:

$15,000 to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network –  Their mission is to help Fire/EMS members and their families cope with cancer and to provide occupational-cancer awareness and prevention training nationwide.

$15,000 to National Fallen Firefighters – Then National Fallen Firefighters Foundation was created by Congress to lead a nationwide effort to honor America’s fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the non-profit Foundation has developed and expanded programs that fulfill that mandate. Their mission is to honor and remember America’s fallen fire heroes and to provide resources to assist their families in rebuilding their lives and work within the fire service community to reduce firefighter deaths and injuries.

About MES C.A.R.E.S.

Municipal Emergency Services, Inc., America’s largest provider of firefighting equipment, is acutely aware of the cancer risks firefighters face in their everyday work environment. The data from many studies show an undeniable link between firefighting and the increased risk of many forms of cancer.  MES employees and our suppliers are working closely to bring technology, best practices, and education to the fire service around the growing cancer threat.

Many worthy organizations leading the fight against firefighter cancer need additional funding.  Municipal Emergency Services, Inc. formed MES C.A.R.E.S., as a nonprofit organization to raise money for Cancer Awareness, Research, Education/Training and Support (C.A.R.E.S.).  Led by our employees, and with the support of our supplier partners, we will raise funds through direct donations, fundraising events, and corporate contributions.

The MES C.A.R.E.S. Board of Directors consists of Chief Richie Bowers of Ocean City, Retired Chief Dave Downey of Miami-Dade County, FL, Chief Don Lombardi of the West Metro Fire District, CO,   MD, and Ward Petrie, VP of Finance for MES Inc.

One hundred percent of funds raised will be donated to reputable groups and organizations involved in firefighter cancer research, prevention, and education or organizations supporting first responders and their families who have been impacted by cancer.  The MES C.A.R.E.S. Board of Directors manages the selection of worthy organizations dedicated to addressing the many challenges and needs of the fight against firefighter cancer. Information on MES C.A.R.E.S. upcoming activities, events and information about our donations can be found at  MES C.A.R.E.S. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
